Qunci Villas is on the island of Lombok. If you haven't heard of Lombok, you are missing out. It's the island that lies just east of Bali that everyone describes as "like Bali 20 years ago", or "the unspoiled Bali". Having been to Lombok 3 times now, I can attest to those statements. This lovely little island has all the natural beauty and friendly hospitality of Bali, without the crowds and over-development.
If you're after wide expanses of unspoiled fine white sandy beach then you have to head south. It's less developed here, but that is a blessing in itself. Kuta is the main town in the south part of the island, and whilst it's also popular with surfers, that is where the resemblance with Bali's Kuta ends. The town itself is tiny and feels like a small relaxed backpacker village where local life passes at its own carefree pace. Base yourself at the family-friendly Sasak-inspired Novotel, or the exclusive hilltop Sempiak Villas, whilst you explore the incredible surrounding beaches. Tanjung Aan, Selong Belanak and Mawun are a must. Some of the most beautiful, white, untouched, peaceful stretches of sand I've seen. Hire a motorbike and bring your own beach supplies and snacks, as there are very few shops or restaurants in the vicinity. You'll share the sand with only a smattering of other in-the-know travelers, and locals.
