Now think how much you would pay to be lying there in the depths of December when the cold weather in Shanghai makes you want to curl up in the foetal position and cry into your mittens.
How does CNY2900 sound?
Yes, for CNY2900 (and that includes all airport taxes and fuel surcharges already!) you could spend 5 full glorious days under the sun on the beach in Boracay, which has to be one of the best beaches in the Philippines, if not Asia.
This is seriously good value folks, go check online if you don't believe me. And it's on the full service national carrier, Philippine Airlines. The only catch is there is a set schedule:
22 Dec 2013 PR339 Shanghai (PVG) - Manila (MNL) 10:50/14:35
22 Dec 2013 PR1800 Manila (MNL) - Kalibo (KLO) 18:00/19:00
28 Dec 2013 PR046 Caticlan (MPH) - Manila (MNL) 07:20/08:20
28 Dec 2013 PR336 Manila (MNL) - Shanghai (PVG) 12:55/15:50
For those who haven't been to Boracay before (why ever not!?!?) you'll need to keep in mind that to get to Boracay island, everyone has to take a 30 minute boat ride from the pier at Caticlan. The flight above arrives into Kalibo Airport which is about a 1.5hour transfer to Caticlan. This is because there is no Philippines Airlines flight into Caticlan that connects the same day from Shanghai (you'd have to overnight in Manila). So you fly into Kalibo, but on the day you leave, you take the flight from Caticlan Airport which is only about 15 minutes from Caticlan pier (we know this flight is early, but be thankful you don't fly out from Kalibo because the flight departs around the same time meaning you'd have to get up even earlier).
And before you ask why not fly another airline into Caticlan, the only other airline options available in and out of Caticlan are low cost airlines and I'm sorry to say, these are not terribly reliable. We've had too many customers come back disgruntled and upset after their holiday was ruined by unexpected delays and cancellations by budget airlines and then get double burned when the airlines were uncooperative in providing compensation. Stick to the nation's flag carrier I say. Plus you get more luggage allowance ;)
