Hotel Indigo came to visit us this week to tell us all about their exciting new property in Lijiang, Yunnan Province, which opened recently at the end of October. For those of you who might be familiar with the Hotel Indigo sitting pretty on the South Bund here in Shanghai, you'll know that the boutique brand brings with it a dash of contemporary design flair mixed in with elements inspired by each local neighbourhood in which the hotel lives. Translation - super funky decor and bright colours that still feels Chinese! Their marketing department is still in the process of taking the official high-res photos of the hotel, but we have some renderings to give you an idea of the look & feel of the hotel.
Hotel Indigo is part of IHG (InterContinental Hotels Group) and their Lijiang property actually sits right next to their sister hotel, Crowne Plaza Lijiang. Both have great locations right at the entrance to Old Town, so if you're looking to decide between the two, we'd recommend Crowne Plaza for more corporate clients, or older travelers who prefer classic decor, and Hotel Indigo for leisure clients or younger travelers who like exotic designer digs. A nifty bonus is that you can stay at the Indigo and use the pool and fitness centre of the Crowne Plaza next door.
Hotel Indigo Lijiang has taken alot of inspiration from the town's history as a key point on the Ancient Tea & Horse Caravan Trail. In particular we're loving the use of horse saddle seats, converted tea chest furniture, and faux horse fur in the soft furnishings. Their unique "Me Space" looks like an awesome place to hang out, with vibrant colours and quirky sitting spaces built into rabbit holes in the wall and inside giant oversized birdcages.
The whole property is low rise, laid out like a village, only 2 stories high, and has a total of 70 rooms. The lead-in room type is Superior with a roomy size of 50sqm, larger than the lead-in rooms next door at Crowne Plaza, and probably in all of Lijiang.
The next category up Deluxe Rooms feature a slightly different decor using warmer tones and more wooden elements. At 68sqm the room doubles as a suite with sliding wooden panels that can be used to separate the bedroom from the living area.
If you're a family or wanting even more space at 128sqm, the Premier Suite rooms are ideal, housed in private buildings each with a small garden. Premier Suites are spread over 2 levels with a spacious and classy living area on one level and a gorgeous bedroom featuring a cosy reading nook and wooden latticed windows on the other.
Hotel Indigo joins the handful of other luxury international hotels now present in Lijiang, including the Pullman, the original Banyan Tree Lijiang, and of course the Crowne Plaza. As the new kid on the block with a refreshingly unique design, it's on track to become 'the' place to stay in Lijiang. To try it out for yourselves, we have a Lijiang Boutique Escape package available now with return flights from Shanghai and a 3 night stay at Hotel Indigo Lijiang, including breakfast and airport transfers.
