Festivals during April
Nepalese are celebrating Navavarsha in April, which is New Year festival in Nepal. People go for picnics, have get-togethers and celebrate the day socializing in various ways as this day is also a national holiday. Navavarsha and Bisket Jatra are celebrated in Nationwide and Bhaktapur.
Festival during May
People are celebrating the birthday of Buddha all over Nepal! Anyway, if you want to celebrate this festival for the best way, you should go to Bhaktapur or Patan!
Festivals during August
Janai Purnima is also known as the “Sacred Thread Festival” . People are celebrating for welcoming young men into manhood!
Gai Jatra is a extremely colorful festival which is known as "Festival of Cows". People are telling jokes, wearing colorful costumes, and this tradition is based to an eighteen-century when the king tried to cheer the queen!
Festivals during September
This colorful fasting festival Teej is also known as the "Festival of Women". Married women fast to honor Shiva and for a long happy life for their husbands. Unmarried women are wearing bright red costumes and bridal dresses in traditional rituals and dances and hoping for a good husband.
Yenya means "Kathmandu Festival" which is the celebration of both Indra Jatra and Kumari Jatra. Yenya is the largest festival in Nepal!
Festivals during October
Dashain is an important Hindu festival marking the goddes Dusga’s victory over evil. Families are traveling back to the original homes during this period.
“Festival of Light”, Deepawali is usually known as Tihar. People decorate their houses with candles, lanterns and colored tinsels for three day period.
Festivals in December
Christmas is becoming more commonplace to place decorations around popular and big town restaurants, but mainly it is for tourist.
New Year is also a very low key event in Nepal as the Nepalese usually only celebrate Tibetan New Year and their own New Year. However plenty of restaurants, cafes and bars in big towns are open for celebrating the Gregorian New Year.
